Safety Meeting Minutes - March 25, 2011
The minutes of the last UP Safety Committee meeting were read and approved.
Van drivers trained
Hans has confirmed that all van drivers have completed the Van Driver Safety Program. He has provided copies of their cards to keep on file at the front office of University Publishing.
Sarah Green from Environmental Health and Safety came on March 23 to access the need for updated eye wash units and the best location(s) for unit(s). EHS may pay for part of the cost to upgrade these units.
Committee is continuing to look into getting the streetlight at the entrance to the gravel parking lot fixed. At the time of the meeting, there was an electrical cord running along the ground from the broken light to a functioning light. The cover panels that should be attached and secured at the base of each light pole were actually open or loose, exposing the interior cord connections. Since these notes were taken, red indicator flags have been stuck in the ground along the cord’s path from one pole to the other. At present, trenching equipment has been in the area and work is obviously being done to remedy the exposed cords, so by next meeting, the committee is sure that the street light will have been fixed.
Workplace Safety Inspections
The master copy of the safety inspection report has been completed by those doing the inspections. There are several items not in compliance. The committee is moving forward on taking care of these items.
First Aid Kits
If you notice a shortage of a first aid kit item, please let a committee member know. The “Go Kit” is still being updated and is in Alvin’s office.
First Aid Training/Certifications
Several people have taken advantage of this training/certification for this year, including Catreas Mohr and Michael McKeirnan. If you would be interested in getting First Aid trained/certified, or if you need to update your current certification, please let someone on the safety committee know and we will get you signed up for the next class.
This was Arline’s last Safety meeting… we will miss her VERY much and wish her all the best in her retirement!
