Hello and welcome to Washington State University.
Mailing Services is here to assist you as you transition into your new life in Pullman! Whether this is your first experience living in one of our Residence Halls or you are a returning student, please take a moment to read the following information. This information will explain what services we provide and how you can ensure your mail reaches you in the shortest time possible.
We provide delivery of Residence Hall mail Monday through Saturday unless the day is a postal holiday observed by the United States Postal Service (USPS). We deliver all classes of mail including first class, standard rate, periodicals, parcel post, or international mail. We also deliver express mail, certified, registered, insured, or signature confirmation mail. A package notice is placed in your mail box instructing you to claim your accountable mail at your hall desk. Mail too large to fit in your mail box is held in a secure area designated by hall staff and must be signed for upon receipt. Present the notice placed in your mailbox to your hall staff to collect your package.
A collection box is provided in each Residence Hall where you may deposit outgoing campus or USPS mail. USPS mail with a return address will be returned to you if the letter is missing postage. USPS mail without postage and lacking a return address will be sent to the United States Postal Service Dead Mail unit where it will be handled in accordance with USPS regulations.
Campus mail does not need postage if sent to academic or administrative offices on all WSU campuses. Use interdepartmental envelopes (available from your hall staff) or any special preaddressed envelopes provided by the campus department with which you're corresponding. If using an interdepartmental envelope, make sure to clearly address the envelope using the addressee's name and department or using the 4 digit campus mail code in lieu of department name. You MAY NOT use campus mail when corresponding with other students, even those living in other residence halls at Washington State University. This is a violation of the Private Express Statutes, a group of federal criminal and civil laws that governs the carriage of mail without compensation across postal routes.
For Mailing Services to provide you with the best service possible, your mail must be properly addressed. Please let your family and friends know your correct address and update the University name and address file of any changes promptly. Your correct address will use the following format.
Any Person
123 Any Residence Hall
P.O. Box 1700
Pullman WA 99163
If you live in one of the Stephenson Halls or McEachern Halls, make sure to include the directional designator of your hall, i.e. Stephenson S. or McEachern E. Do not use Washington State University as part of your address as the mail piece may be routed into the academic mail stream, potentially causing a delay in delivery. Please note that residence halls use the general zip code for Pullman of 99163 instead of the 99164 zip code which is reserved for academic and administrative mail for Washington State University. It is important to use the correct zip code as your mail may be delayed if incorrectly addressed.
You may update your address information easily and quickly via the web by clicking on the eInfo Center button on the Student web page, found on the Washington State University home page. Keeping your address information updated will allow Mailing Services to forward your mail promptly.
